VIDEO
In this episode of the Close Ups video series, Polina Kosmadaki, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Head of the Department of Paintings, Drawings and Prints, presents the Parthenon watercolour of the artist Samuel Atkins, who toured Greece in the late 18th and early 19th century, following the “Grand Tour” tradition. This watercolour painting depicts the Parthenon in the state it was in before Lord Elgin removed the sculptures and is a valuable testimony for the monument in the turn of the century.
