Graphic Novel, a comic popular narrative form, dominates nowadays the publishing industry and book market, having gained the readers’ attention. In addition, the academic community, literary critics and journalists are interested in Graphic novels that become a useful tool in the hands of teachers as well.
In the contemporary cultural field, Graphic Novel proposes a multi-dimensional and polyphonic reflection on comic narrative mode, which dynamically interacts with other arts (literature, cinema, and painting). Furthermore it attempts to highlight the artistic and aesthetic value of a constantly evolving narrative form which is an integral part of the narrative arts that the cultural development of the 20th and 21st centuries have brought to light.
How can we interpret the blossoming of graphic novel? What factors influence its dynamic evolution? How is it related to other arts and more specifically to literature? What are its future opportunities? Are all comic books graphic novels?
These are the questions pose and wish to respond our meeting entitled GRAPHIC NOVELS. The Demanding Narratives of a Mature Comic Form in which academics, journalists, comics’ creators, publishers and representatives of the Graphic Novels’ Greek scene will exchange opinions about this popular in Greece and abroad comic form.
