The landscape of Santorini in the Greek painting of 20th century
FROM 03/10/2019 - TO 03/11/2019

Forty years have passed since the birth of the idea of the well-known art collector, Dimitris Tsitouras, to create a collection entirely based on the magical scenery of Santorini, with emphasis on the 20th century Greek painters. From 1984 onwards, he tried with insistence and persistence to enrich his collection which, until today, includes 180 works of art.

A selection of eighty-four paintings of great Greek artists will travel the visitor both in the unique landscape of Santorini as well as into a unique retrospection of Greek painting. Artists, friends of Dimitris Tsitouras, have managed each one with his unique point of view to portray the island of the volcano so differently and so harmoniously at the same time.

Visitors are invited to free their imagination and find themselves from the old port and the narrow alleys of Fira to Oia, Akrotiri and Ammoudi – landscapes whose light and colors are enchanted and continue to charm voyagers and artists. Painters such as Dimos Braessas, Vassos Germenis, Nikos Hadjikyriakos – Ghika, Yiannis Moralis, Spyros Vassiliou and younger ones such as Opi Zouni, Kostas Tsoklis and Pavlos Samios are just some of the painters who enrich the exhibition.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a book with the same title, where the reader will be able to browse the entire collection of works, read the history of its creation, and witness personal stories of the collector Dimitris Tsitouras with numerous well-known artists.
